Growing great coffee & more...
| At Kenco we pride ourselves on ensuring that we continually source the highest quality beans to make our coffee blends.
But as consumer expectations increase, assurance of quality is no longer enough. Today’s consumers are increasingly demanding ethically sourced products. (Source Henley Centre 2007) Kenco now provides you and your customers with the choice of ethically sourced product without any compromise on quality or price. Our parent company Kraft Foods has been working in the area of sustainability for over 15 years and our work with the Rainforest Alliance is part of this initiative. Since 2004 we have sourced 100% of the coffee in Kenco Sustainable Development from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms. But now we have taken the bold step to source at least 75% of all Kenco freeze dried coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms and our goal is to source all Kenco coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms by 2010.
| Who is the Rainforest Alliance?
Founded in 1987, the Rainforest Alliance is an independent, non - profit environment organisation. They promote standards for sustainability that conserve wildlife and ensure the well being of workers and their communities. The Rainforest Alliance Certified™ programme assures consumers that the products they are buying come from farms that meet demanding standards for environmental, economic and social improvements. For more information visit www.rainforest-alliance.org |
| Kraft’s relationship with the Rainforest Alliance has already had a positive impact on the lives of 205,000 farmers and ensured the sustainable management of 101,311 acres of farm and forest land.
Here are some real life examples of the benefit it can bring to coffee growing communities: |

| La Cumplida farm in Nicaragua pays workers a rate that is about 25% higher than the government’s minimum wage. They also provide workers with food and transportation, allowing them to take home their earnings, rather than spend it during the day |

| The Ciudad Barrios Coffee Co-operative in El Salvador, has reforested more than 300 acres of barren hilltops and planted more than 77,000 trees since certification in 2005. |

| As one of the first mass-market coffee brands in the UK to feature the Rainforest Alliance Certified™ logo across its range* Kenco will provide a unique point of difference for your business. |

| Kenco‘s goal by 2010 is to convert all Kenco products to using only beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms. |

| At Finca Ona in Guatemala, all permanent workers have health insurance. There is a farm clinic onsite and the farm collaborates with the Guatemalan Ministry of Health to vaccinate the children of workers and coffee pickers. |
